Project Statement

by L.O'Connor

"Seeing Egypt" begins with unrecognizable satellite images and photograph by photograph takes the reader closer to the Great pyramids, finally delivering the author's own panoramic, awestruck experience at the base of these wonders. Commentary captures these monuments, the incredibility of their duration, and ability to defy time. As the photographs progress, the images move from real photos to painted panoramas, the commentary shifting from mention of gridded pictures to "the pearl of Egypt" and "her, the mistress of both worlds", leaving the reader with a looming question: is the awestruck presence of these pyramids, their ability to reject the wearing of time, the mysticism behind such concrete structures "is it really Isis or is Isis just parading, masquerading as a brunette" on panoramic movie-set-screens?
