Production Narrative

by J. Drucker

The book was designed in InDesign, a first effort, switch from Quark, using Agenda, then sent to Kyle as files, output and printed offset, with a letterpress cover that KS printed. Not hard, but lots of design work.

Critical Analysis

by J. Drucker

Design Features

typographic: Agenda Light, Medium, and Bold in sizes from 10 to 24, including some italic.

graphical: The structure of layout is key, signalling different registers within the overall language of the text.

openings: Structured for color contrast and balance, to keep the pages from becoming too repetitive or dull.

Critical Discussion

A book about the way we live now. Perhaps the most serious piece of writing I've done.

Colophon

Written from 2002 to 2004. Edited 2003 and 2004. Laid out, sketched, re-edited, reworked, rethought in 2004-05. Finally typeset in 2005, January, by the author. / Type is Agenda in Light, Medium, Bold and in sizes from 10 to 24, with italic added. / The news is the only thing worth writing about. The rest is here for grounding, for the contrast of narrative and observed characters, extrusions of possible scenarios on which optimism might be based. / Copyright 2004 Johanna Drucker. ty
