Production Narrative
by K. Schlesinger
Reading Keats to Sleep is a single poem printed letterpress from photopolymer plates in 18 pt. Albion from the P22 Type foundry. The text appears in blue ink on 100% cotton Somerset paper. This hardcover, accordion-style book was painted with bright orange ink down the left hand side of the page, the first letter of the poem (an “O”) is bubbled in with a colored pencil, and the book is secured with marbled end-papers attached to the boards. The plates were produced by the printer using an ancient Nuarc fliptop platemaker. The boards were covered with brown paper at the press. The front cover depicts Keats’ profile in an autumnal color-scheme behind two large Zs, in dark blue. The cover was also printed letterpress from photopolymer plates, and the calligraphic font is Roanoke Script, also from the P22 Type foundry in Buffalo, New York.
