Project Statement
by
A collection that depicts 44 individuals that are part of my life who depend on their glasses to ee with clarity. The sharpness of the superimposed visual acuity charts from an optometrist's office depends on the ocular deficiency of each individual. To watch nature, to observe a piece of art, to contemplate an object, to scan over words, to inspect details, to gaze, to stare are all manifestations of seeing in a totally different light. "To the naked eye" takes on a new meaning. Texture, colour, luminosity, shape and size seem no longer directly tangible when mediated by eyeglasses. The special sense by which the qualities of our eyes once perceived and touched are no longer trusted to clearly view the world. Even though sight may no longer be clear--through the individual's eyes--we still capture the "portals to their soul."
